Parliament Day

Designed as an alternative to a school camp or an excursion, our Parliament Day brings a whole day of government and democracy fun to your classroom.

New for 2023, we’ve developed this full day program to give your students a thorough and enjoyable way to learn about parliament. Parliament Day brings you our Parliament Process and Parliament Experts incursions in expanded form, and is a great option for schools wishing to maximise learning in the civics and citizenship curriculum.

Through interactive presentations, videos, and discussions, students examine the foundations of democracy, the purpose of politics, the role of government, the nature of political systems, and the electoral and law-making processes.

Students use role plays, costumes and props to participate in an election, a referendum, and two Federal Parliament debates. With new knowledge presented in fun and engaging activities, the day culminates in a lively and passionate Senate debate, in which students prepare and present persuasive speeches on the topic of discussion.

Follow-up resources and professional learning certificates are provided for all attending teachers.

Suitable for Year 5 and Year 6. View curriculum links here.
